Den 7 Program Updates

Updates…upcoming events for Den 7 and Pack 108:

Winterall
The winterall is similar to the recent “Operation Cubsicle” experience that Den 7 took part in a few weeks ago. This event is organized by scout leaders in the St. Charles area and will take place on February 4 at LeRoy Oaks Forest Preserve.

Mr. Stubbs, our Cubmaster, is encouraging participation by Pack 108, so I’ll spread the word. Tim S. and Marshall K. have already signed up, and anyone else interested is encouraged to do so. I’ll share flyers explaining the even by email if you wish for one—I had hard copies available last week at the pack meeting.

As with Operation Cubsicle, it is a full-day event, and as with Operation Cubsicle, there is a modest cost ($7.00 plus a can of non-cream style soup).

I’d like to obtain commitments from those who would like to participate by the den meeting on Tuesday; I’ll pass on Den 7’s level of interest to Mr. Stubbs at that point.

Items needed for the Winterall by Cub Scouts:
• Kindling and tinder for fire building event (optional friction kit)
• Cub Scout Uniform under winter coat
• Snow Snake
• Klondkie sled for Webelos (optional)
• Egg Decorations
• Proper clothing for the weather – please no gym shoes (waterproof boots and gloves are minimal requirements)
• Can of soup (no cream soups or bean soups)
• Den Flag
• Den yell
• Sled with cooler for storing dry clothes and water
• Proper clothing for the weather – please no gym shoes (waterproof boots and gloves are minimal requirements)

Den Updates: January 16, 2006

Dear Wolf Den Community:

Reminder that we will have a pack meeting this week—Tuesday, January 17, 6:30 at Davis School.

The Wolf Den has three responsibilities:
--display their collections (please use the little signs or an equivalent to show case the collection's and why the owner has that collection—the signs were provided at the den meeting last week)
--conduct the opening and closing ceremony
--perform a skit for the program.

Upcoming events:
--Pinewood Derby is on Saturday, January 28.
--Links for constructing cars: www.derbydesigncontest.com/
--and a recent movie on Pinewood Derbies: www.downandderby.com/
--Mr. Stubbs, the Cubmaster, has put out a request to help with the Pinewood Derby by assisting with set up on the evening of Friday, January 27. Please let him know by email whether you can help or not.
--Long range: please mark your calendar for Sunday, February 26, 2006. This is the annual Blue and Gold Banquet. It will take place over the lunch hour/early afternoon on that date. The members of the Wolf Den will receive the Wolf Badge during the ceremony on that date.

--Looking ahead to the summer, there are a number of day camp and resident camp (over night camping) experiences coming up. I will pass along the pack leadership's plans as they become known, but the key date for day camp is 24-28 July at Good Templar Park in Geneva.

More specific details should be available at the pack meeting this week. This message posted with relevant links at http://pack108.blogspot.com/

Wolf Den Post-meeting Wrap-up

Dear Wolf Den Community:

Next time you see him, please extend your appreciation to Mr. Ferry--his firey guitar playing was a highlight for the meeting.

Next week is the pack meeting...we will be busy with the opening, the closing, and the skit...as well as showing off our collections.

With the skit and flag ceremonies, the wolf den will have accomplished everything it can for working on the Wolf Award...please be sure to finish up the requirements that are designed for home and family. You can get those from the sheet I sent out last fall.

Other odds and ends...
--Marshall is working on a religious award...most faiths have a Cub Scout appropriate award. The religious awards are issued by your religious community, but may be worn on the scout uniform. Information is available here: http://www.scouting.org/awards/religious/ and for protestant/Christian denominations at http://www.praypub.org

--I'll be filling in as substitute Cubmaster next week, so if any of you who are attending the meeting can sit near the Wolf den, it will help to keep them focused on the program instead of each other. "Classroom management by proximity" is the technical term. :-)

I'll share more as it comes my way. I wish you all a great week.

Wolf Den Meeting: January 3, 2006

Dear Wolf Den Community:

Program notes--

This week’s den meeting will take place on Tuesday at 6:30 PM, as usual, in the Davis School Community Room.

The den has pretty much covered the Wolf advancement tasks I noted on the advancement sheet I passed out a while back. The final two items that the den needs to cover will be taken care of this month. Please make sure that the items to be taken care of as a family are done by our Pack Meeting in February, so that all the members of the den can receive their Wolf Badge.

One of the items to cover is showing their collections to an audience. I will mention this to them this week (again), but please be ready to bring their collection to the pack meeting in January so that they can show their work.

The den will also be conducting the flag ceremony and performing a skit at the pack meeting later this month. We will practice this during the den meetings.

The theme this month is music, so we will be carrying out some music-related activities.

Ginny is scheduled for treats this week….

Next week, the community room is being used by the PTO. I’ll let you know about an alternate meeting site ASAP.

Welcome to the New Year—I hope it will be a happy one for all of us.

Ken
