Den 7 Upate: Nick's Pizza Tour

Den 7 Parents:

Looking ahead to Tuesday of next week, hopefully this will answer some of the questions that came up over the last few days.

Who:
Cub Scouts in Den 7. Please have them wear (or, if shy, bring) their cub scout uniforms for wear on the tour.

What:
Trip to Nick's Pizza

Where and When:
3:00: School dismissal--I will be present in the parking lot at Davis, so the boys can play on the playground as we prepare to depart.
3:30: Depart from Davis School Parking Lot.
4:00: Arrive at Nick's
5:30: Tour and pizza making/consumption end.
6:00: Back to Davis (my best estimate)

Transportation Notes:
  • Joy will pick up Kalin at Wasco school and take him to Nick's Pizza
  • Greg indicated that Mindy would pick up Trent at Richmond School. Mindy--you are welcome to take him to Nick's or drop him off at Davis and I can transport. Just let me know
  • Ken will drive (room for 5)
  • Ginny stated that she could drive (room for 4)
  • Bryan indicated that he would be able to attend/transport
  • Ann and Dan indicated that they would be able to attend

Why:
Because it is fun, and it fits in with our monthly theme.

How Much:
$4.50 per cub scout (half the usual cost of a personal pizza)

Other:
We will be taking the tour since the school is closed, due to local elections.

The following week (24 April) is the monthly pack meeting. The boys will be conducting the opening and closing--please help them remember to bring the chef''s hats we made at the last den meeting with them to the pack meeting.

We are still looking forward to a den campout on 4-5 May.

Looking forward to the real start of spring this year,

Ken

Mid-week Den 7 Update

Dear Den Parents:

Some of the boys were anxious to know the results of the denner/assistant denner election.

Denner: Clayton M.

Asst. Denner: Ken W.

Thanks to all for help and treats this evening....

Additional points of information
  • Next week is the Nick's Pizza event, taking place right after school. I'll send out information by email on Sunday.
  • See the flier I sent home with your sons this evening regarding the den camp out, May 4-5
  • I distributed the Scout Council Fundraiser cards this evening--please return them at the pack meeting. The local council would like to collect the cards, regardless of whether you make a contribution or not.

Take care, and have a good week.

Ken

Den 7 Weekly Update

Dear Den 7 Parents:

Thanks to all who were able to participate in the climbing adventure yesterday--and my appreciation goes out to Ginny for providing transportation.

I took some reasonable pictures--I'll bring them to the pack meeting to share.

This week we continue with our Cub Cafe experience....we will also select a new denner and prepare for the opening ceremony at the pack meeting in two weeks.

This week:
Meeting help: Eshbaugh Family
Treat: Ferry Family (something we could assemble like trail mix [raisins, peanuts, m+m's, and cereal would match the theme])

Next week: Nick's Pizza trip (right after school)

Looking ahead a little:
  • May 1: 6 members of the den are performing with the orchestra, so wisdom dictates that we cancel that meeting, since 60% will be listening to the sound of young boys making music on their instruments
  • May 4-5: look for an overnight adventure....long delayed, but looking positive--I'll have more tomorrow, but please make a note on your calendar.

Best,

Ken

Den 7 Update

Dear Den 7 Parents:

Reminder that our weekly den meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, 6:30 PM at Davis School.

Our monthly theme is the "Cub Cafe" and as part of that experience, we will be making lunches for Lazarus House. Please see the note that Jane sent out previously, so that we are able to stock the lunches appropriately. If your son is unable to make it this week, please let me know so that arrangements can be made for supplying ingredients to the lunches.

Parent helper: Siarny Family
Treat: Eshbaugh Family

I will need commitments for the climbing wall adventure scheduled for next Saturday. $14 per cub scout provides one hour on the wall in Elgin and some delicious pizza. Per the hardcopy I shared previously, I need signed release forms for each boy. We will leave from Davis School at 1:30 on Saturday and return by 4:00 PM.

Best regards,

Ken

Pack 108 Update

Dear Pack 108 Families:

Two reminders:
The pack's parent meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening, 6:45 - 8:00 PM at Michele Fata's house, 1011 Elm Street (Between Horne and Mosedale).

Second reminder
The 'early bird' fee for attending Cub Scout Resident Camp is coming up early this week. Currently, three cub scouts and two parents are planning to attend CS Resident Camp at Indian Mound Reservation near Ocononomow, WI.

If you would like to sign up soon and receive the 'early bird' discount, I will be holding my den meeting on Tuesday evening, April 3, at Davis School (Community Room, 6:30-7:30). You can drop off a check make out to "Milwaukee County Council" for the appropriate amount.

For those for whom the early payment deadline doesn't matter, I want to collect all payments for interested Cub Scouts/parents by May 1.

Best regards,

Ken

What:
Cub Scout Resident Camp (4 days/3 nights)

Who:
All interested Cub Scouts. For those cub scouts who have attended day camp previously, this is a great opportunity. It might be “too much” for those who have either not been away from home before, or who have not taken part in the day camp offered in the St. Charles area.

Where:
Indian Mound Reservation, Oconomowoc, WI (120 minute drive from St. Charles. IMR has a Cub World camp with a lake, castle, pirate ship, mine and programming delivered by a full time camp staff.

Why:
To keep the ‘outing’ in scouting, and because it is fun.

When:
July 12 – July 15

How Much:
$120 ($110 per scout if paid by 4 April) and $45 per adult leader/parent

Payment Deadline:
April 4 for “early bird” deadline; 1 May at full camp fee for Pack 108 planning purposes

Leadership:
Organized by the Milwaukee County Council Boy Scouts of America.

Pack Leadership:
2 adults for first ten youth; one additional adult for each multiple of five cub scouts over the first ten (e.g. 11 cub scouts = 3 adults; 21 cub scouts = 5 adults, etc.) If your son has not spent time away from family in the past, I would recommend attending with him.

Ken King, Cubmaster, has committed to attending this activity with his den, and would welcome participation by other scouts and parents.
