Webelos Den Update, 23 October Meeting

Dear Webelos Den parents:

Our meeting this week is back at Davis School. We will continue work on citizenship and the athlete award.

This week we will finish our fitness testing during the first part of the meeting, and then carry out a service project during the second part--we will pick up litter than has blown up around the school since the start of the school year--it should be a relatively quick and painless activity, and once thorough trip around the school should do it. My thanks to Mr. Backer for suggesting this project.

I will secure trash bags and rubber gloves, and bring flashlights to make it more of an adventure.

For boys that have missed the last couple of meetings, I would ask them to bring a poster of "what makes them a good citizen" to the pack meeting at the end of the month. We will display those to show that our boys are putting their ideals into practice. If boys who were absent during either of the last two meetings would also make a poster showing how the "Star Spangled Banner" <link> was written, that will cover another requirement that we worked on at our recent meetings.

Reminder that popcorn orders are due at the pack meeting on October 30....

Reminder that families are working on the Fitness Activity badge at home, since that award is home-based, rather than pack-based.

Please note help and treats as listed below.

Enjoy the perfect day that we seem to have today--

Webelos Den Update for October 16

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

Just a couple of reminders for our den meeting this week:

We will meet at the King's house, 1401 South 7th, from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM.

We will continue working on our Citizenship and Athlete badges, so please wear sneakers or other running shoes!

Please note den help (I assume it will be Jane's substitute, since she came last week) and treats for this week's meeting.

ALSO NOTE: Popcorn orders are due to me at the pack meeting on 30 October. I understand that many boys in the den are using the forms that they received through the mail from the scout council, but if you would care for another form--or would like one to start with--I will have them available for you on Tuesday.

Enjoy the few remaining hours of the weekend,

Ken

Webelos Den Meeting, October 9, 2007

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend.

Our meeting this week will take place at Davis School, at the usual 6:30 meeting time. We will continue work on the citizenship and fitness activity badges.

Please note treat and meeting help "volunteers" on the meeting help schedule.

Based on the feedback I received (two families), the bike ride scheduled for Monday will take place, but only from 9:00 through 11:00. If you were on the fence, and deciding against it because it was to be an all-day event, the change in duration might make it more palatable. For those who attend, please bring water and a bike helmet.

The monthly parent meeting is scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Fata's house, 7:00 PM.

If anyone is interested in spending a day learning scouting training techniques, I'm running a training course next weekend. Details are here.

Best regards,

Ken

Webelos Den -:- Midweek Update

Dear Webelos Den parents:

A couple of clarifications, should you need them.

The sheet I sent home with the boys is to help them keep track of the jobs they do at home. If they can keep track of their work this week, we will use them to talk about how they serve as a good citizen by contributing to their home.

Our pack activity for this month's theme--"Down on the Farm" will take place on Saturday, November 3 for about an hour, as we visit an Alpaca Farm. Thanks to Bonnie for finding information on Kuiper's, but they were not available, based on the information I received.

Looking ahead a little farther--courtesy of Ginny Gannett, we will visit one of the local Kane County judges on November 13 as part of a tour of the Kane County Courthouse. We will be meeting right after school on that date, so just consider this an advanced notice of a time change for the meeting.

We will also have a brief meeting during the week that school is off in November, when we will open the St. Charles City Council meeting by presenting the flag at the opening of the council meeting--that will take place on November 16, 6:15 at the St. Charles City Hall.

Reminder that bike hike commitments are requested by Saturday evening, so that we can shop for food on Sunday.

Best regards,

Ken
