Webelos Den Weekly Update

Dear Den 7 Parents:

Public and ongoing thanks to Ann Wahab and the Komarek family for their work in organizing and providing a trailer/driving for the Electric Parade this weekend.

Reminder that our pack meeting is this weekend, and that our pack committee chair, Scot Conover, is asking families to contribute a toy for the holiday Toy for Tots drive.

Reminders from me, in my role as den leader:
Please bring in your completed Webelos Fitness Activity Badge progress sheets (these are also in the Webelos Handbook). Most of the boys will be finished with their Webelos Rank Award by December, and this activity badge is one of the core requirements.

Please note that if you want your son to take part in Operation Cubsicle on January 5, I will need a check for $15 at the pack meeting (made out to Three Fires Council). If you would like to attend as well, the parent fee is $7. We will need at least of 3 parents in attend; I will be one of them. Timely registration is essential here, as this activity will likely fill up by the first of December.

Reminder from me, in my role as the interim popcorn chairman:
Please bring in all popcorn payments to the pack meeting. We will distribute prizes at the December pack meeting.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend,

Ken

Webelos Den Activity -:- Monday, Movember 19

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

Here are the best details I can give for the Monday Flag Ceremony at the St. Charles City Hall:

6:05. Gathering time at City Hall. I will be there in advance, so look for me.

6:15. Cub Scouts given tour of City Hall, meet mayor, city council members.

7:00. Cub Scouts present flag, lead group in Pledge of Allegiance

7:05. Cub Scouts introduce themselves to members of the City Council. You might prep them on doing this in an audible voice...as I think we all notice that their voices shrink in volume as the number of people listening to them increases. :-)

7:10. Depart.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow. If you won't be able to make this, due to travel considerations, please let me know.

Webelos Activity: Operation Cubsicle + Long Term Planning Dates

ear Webelos Den Parents:

Thanks to Ginny Gannet for arranging for the visit to the courthouse today. It was informative and sobering, as the 9 and 10-year old boys realized that there were 9 and 10-year old boys held in the Youth Detention Center across the parking lot.

Given the nature of the den meeting today, please be sure that our Monday night flag ceremony is on your calendar for next week. I'll send the usual reminder out over the weekend with a reminder of time, location, and other details.

We won't meet next Tuesday, as the school is closed for the day.

Please note in the attachment: Operation Cubsicle on Saturdqy, January 5. We've done this for the last two years, and had a good experience, so let's make it happen again. Please note the fees for participation are the same as last year, and that to ensure our participation, I'd like to collect the participation fee (by check, made out to Three Fires Council) at the Pack Meeting on the 27th. We will also need a couple of parents to take part as well. I will bring hard copies of the document to help as a reminder to our flag presentation next week.

Please mark your calendar for Webelos resident camp at Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-A-Wan, June 29-July 2. I performed the camp inspection for this property over the last two years, and they have a really terrific Webelos program. They have not posted the information on their website yet, but if you would mark your calendar and seriously consider participation, I know the boys would really benefit from it.

Given that we have siblings among us, I also recommend Cub Scout resident camp during from July 10-13 at Indian Mound Reservation. They have a good introductory camping experience, and I highly encourage participation in this program as well.

Look for some information regarding the Electric Parade in the near future, as we have a good theme developing around this activity.

Best regards,

Ken

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

Just the usual update for this week's den meeting:

Who
Flaming Arrow Den Members

What
Den Meeting

Where
Visit to Kane County Courthouse

When
Tuesday, November 13, 3:30 PM

Why
Visit a community leader (Chief Justice in Kane County) and learn what he does for the community

How
Our den meeting will take place immediately after school on November 13. For those that have flexible scheduling, helping with transportation would be great. We will return to Davis School by 5:00 PM

I currently have room for 3 more cub scouts (I am transporting Marshall, Harrison, and Zachary). We have eight boys total, so if you have flexible scheduling and can help with driving, please let me know.

Please note that your son should wear his Cub Scout uniform to school on that day, or be able to change at the end of day.

We will gather at the playground, allow some energy to be expended, and then depart at 3:30 PM

Thanks
To Ginny Gannet for this entrée to the Judge

Reminder:
Next week we will meet Monday evening at the City Hall to deliver the opening flag ceremony at the City Council Meeting.

Best regards,

Ken

Webelos Den Weekly Update

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

We are continuing our work on the Citizenship Activity Badge this month, and will be completing that work by the end of the month.

Please note treat help and such, as noted in the email message.

Also--please take a look at the attachment to the email message (I will have hard copies available at the den meeting)--it has information regarding our November den meetings and activities, as well as a checklist for work on the Fitness Activity Badge, which is the only Webelos Activity Badge which is exclusively a family-based experience. If you can complete those discussions and family projects by the middle of the month and return the sheet to me, that would be most helpful.

We had a nice time yesterday visiting the Alpaca Farm--perhaps we can visit as a den in the spring when it is shearing time.

See you all on Tuesday at the Davis School Community Room.
