Webelos Den Updates

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

This week we will meet at 5:55 PM at the Davis School parking lot and depart at 6:00 PM for Tekakwitha Woods for a nature and forestry hike. We will drop boys off at home at the close of the meeting, so please be sure someone is home to collect your son around 7:15 PM

The weather is supposed to be clear, but cool.

Den help: the Siarny family. Snack: the Corvino/Gannet family.

I've added one more event to our den's activities this spring: tree planting later in April

A few things to pass along...

8, 15, 22 April: Den Meetings

26 April: Tree planting through Kane County Forest Preserve District

29 April: Pack meeting at Davis School

2-3 May: Den Camp Out at Elburn Forest preserve

10 May: Scout-O-Rama at Catigny Museum/Park. More on this soon--it is a public display event to showcase scouting. Pack 108 is in the process of committing to hosting a booth with typical cub scout games from the 1930s.

Best regards,

Ken

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

A few things to pass along...

25 March: No Den Meeting, due to District 303 Spring Break

1 April: Den meeting location to be determined (Davis closed). I'd like to get out and take a hike or something, since we have light in the evening--and this fits into our program of outdoorsman/naturalist for the spring

8, 15, 22 April: Den Meetings

29 April: Pack meeting at Davis School

2-3 May: Den Camp Out at Elburn Forest preserve

10 May: Scout-O-Rama at Catigny Museum/Park. More on this soon--it is a public display event to showcase scouting. Pack 108 is in the process of committing to hosting a booth with typical cub scout games from the 1930s.

Webelos Den Reminders

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

Just a reminder regarding the Family Member Activity Badge: The requirements are designed to help your son contribute to mature in terms of the sort of contributions he makes to his family.

Most of the requirements are done at home--we did several during den meetings--but if you would be so kind as to bring the attached sheets to the pack meeting on Tuesday, we will post them and be able to recognize the Webelos for their accomplishments.

During the next two months, I'm organizing activities around the Naturalist, Forester, and Outdoorsman Activity Badges. These badges are embedded in the requirements for the Leave No Trace and Cub Scout World Conservation Awards. We are looking into a den camp out to take place on the first weekend in May, so please mark Friday and Saturday of that weekend for an adventure.

Best regards,

Ken

Pack Meeting Reminder

Dear Pack 108 Parents:

Just a reminder that our monthly pack meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, March 18, at 6:30 PM in the Davis School Community Room.

A few things to keep in mind:
I made mention of Cub Scout and Webelos resident camp opportunities this summer. The registration fee increases in a few weeks, so if you are interesting in taking advantage of those opportunities, I would encourage you to make that commitment by the time of the pack meeting. Several boys/families have already indicated interest, and hopefully more can join in on the fun. I’ve attached those documents to the email message I sent this evening.

If your son is more interested in something local, I would encourage you to make a decision by dens regarding taking part in cub scout day camp, here in the St. Charles/Geneva area. Visit the TFC camping page and follow links to the “Fox Valley” district camping programs.

The theme for the pack meeting is turning “litter into glitter,” so look for demonstrations of Cub Scout projects. We will also be celebrating Pack 108’s 50th Birthday, so look forward to a bit of cake and good cheer as well.

As a heads up, the annual scout council fundraising drive is underway. A scout leader from the local council will take a few minutes to describe the “Friends of Scouting” program. It is an annual canvass of families whose children take part in scouting. A preprinted card with your name on it will be distributed at the meeting, and you will be asked to consider making a contribution. However, you are under absolutely no need to contribute. They would like to have the cards returned to them, thus indicating that you have heard their pitch.

Spring seems to have finally arrived, and with District 303’s Spring Break arriving next week, not a moment too soon.

Take care, and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.

Best regards,

Ken

Webelos Den Weekly Update

ear Webelos Den Parents:

We will meet at Davis School Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Treats are from the King family and meeting help from the Miklesons.

This week we will finish up our work on the "Family Member" activity badge--most of the requirements are to be done at home, so please continue working on the requirements with your sons during the time remaining before next week's pack meeting. Hopefully your sons came home last week ready to do the same sort of home inspection that they provided us. It was noted that the basement was a bit dusty, though that was not one of the official inspection items. :-)

Thanks to Ann for organizing the pack's participation in the St. Patrick's Day parade...it was pretty brisk for a walk down Main Street, but the boys enjoyed themselves.

Take care,

Ken

One more Webelos-related item...

...our participation in the St. Patrick's Day parade is this Saturday, 8 March at 1:15 PM. Hopefully you collected the information form from Ann that was available at the Blue and Gold banquet yesterday.

Best always,

Ken

Webelos Den Weekly Update

Dear Webelos Den Parents:

Our meeting will take place this week at the usual time (Tuesday, 6;30 PM) at our semi-usual place) the King's house (1401 S. 7th).

We will continue work on our Family Member Activity Badge. Most of the requirements for this award are about documenting how your son is a participating and responsible member of his family...the sheet I sent home last week is to help document those experiences. Please work with your sons to bring the completed home inspection form to the pack meeting on 18 March.

I'd like to schedule a den campout on Friday 2 May to Saturday 3 May. I will look into making campsite reservations at one of the local forest preserves for that date.

And finally, my thanks to all of you for your help and participation in the Blue and Gold banquet, and especially for our own den's Bonnie Kampen for organizing the event.

Best always,

Ken
