Webelos Den Update, October 2

Dear Webelos Parents:

I hope everyone has recovered from the camp out. I realize after volunteering at Tekakawitha Woods today that I am too old to do two different things on a single weekend. I may buy my first tube of Ben Gay to celebrate my next birthday in October.

Regarding other advancement, I hope everyone is working on the Fitness Activity Badge at home, since that is one of the few family-based Activity Badges--and it is required for the Webelos Badge, which I hope to award to the members of the Den in December.

We will be commencing work on the Citizen Activity Badge and continuing work on the Athlete Activity Badge that we started on the Webelos camp out. Encourage your sons to keep running, jumping, chinning up, etc., and each week for one month we will test their skills at the den meeting, seeking improvement.

The Davis Community Room is closed to us this week, so we will meet at the King's house this week, at the usual time.

Please note meeting help and snacks below--and the continuing request for a low-sugar snack.

Have a good week,

Ken

Webelos Den Campout

Dear Webelos Den parents:

Reminder that our campout is this weekend. It is sponsored by the local scout officials, so for our $14, we will be fed and watered during our campout.

It is recommended to eat before you come out on Friday--they will make a snack available Friday evening, but that won't be until after 8:00 PM

I'm going to leave from the Davis School parking lot at 5:30 PM. Please feel free to join a caravan. Otherwise, if you are traveling with yourself and your son, plan on arriving at Camp Big Timber by 8:00 PM.

The equipment list was passed out a few weeks ago. We are also required to have a medical history form completed for all who are taking part. Just fill out the first page of this document, if you are looking for one: www.scouting.org/forms/34414.pdf

I look forward to seeing everyone who can take part in this adventure.

Best regards,

Ken

Webelos Den Update for September 18 Meeting

Dear Webelos Parents:

Looking ahead to next week:

We will be launching our model rockets, so that means we all have a fun parent-son project to work on this weekend. Please be sure that the rockets are ready to launch--I will have my launch pads and rocket motors ready to go. This is the last requirement for the Webelos Scientist Award, so I look forward to seeing that all the boys receive that recognition at the pack meeting at the close of the month.

We will meet *outside* of Davis School, as the Grade K-2 curriculum program is taking place inside.

Den help is from the Dwyer family; treats are courtesy of the Mikleson family.

All boys who turned in the registration form and their check are now registered for the Webelos Den campout at the end of the month. It should be a nice time, and as someone else is organizing the event, we can count on better weather than I am able to conjure up.

Have a nice weekend--it looks to be a gorgeous one.

Best regards,

Ken

Den Update for September 11

Dear Webelos Parents:

Well, since my bid for "higher office" [http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=31542] did not pan out, I continue to have abundant time for cub scouting. :-)

Looking ahead to next week, I need to commit to our den's participation in the Webelos Campout at the end of the month.
I will need commitments in the form of
--completed health forms
--checks for participation ($14 for parent and $14 for son)

Please refer to the documents I sent home with your son last week for details. These sorts of experiences tend to fill up rapidly, so I will plan on bringing the completed forms to the Scout Council office on Wednesday following our next meeting.

We will be back at Davis School next week, but please refer to the information in the recent email regarding meeting places, den help, and treats. Our work next week will continue our science investigations, including further construction on our model rockets.

Best regards,

Ken

Den Updates, Week of September 2

Dear Webelos Parents--

Happy holiday weekend.

Looking ahead to cub scouts this week, we will meet at the King's house (address below) at 6:30 on Tuesday night.

We will continue our work on the scientist activity badge. If you would please also make a decision regarding your--and your son's--participation in the district webelos campout on September 28-29, please let me know. I would like to reserve our place at the camp out. It would be desirable for each boy to have one parent in attendance, especially if he has never been camping before. If you have work obligations, we can work to share responsibility for the boys among the parents who will be attending.

The information is on the sheet your sons took home with them last week.

The pack meeting this month will take place on 25 September, and will be combined with a new parent orientation meeting. Boy scouts from one of the local troops have been contacted, and are expected to host the boys in games for 20 minutes or so while the parents have a chance to learn about scouting.

I will have a schedule for meeting help/treats with me at the next meeting.....thanks to Ann for volunteering to get us started with the treats.

Best regards,

Ken
