BLUE AND GOLD BANQUET -:- Extended Deadline

Dear Pack Parents:

I received an update from Bonnie Kampen, our Blue and Gold Banquet chair--she reports 86 people signed up so far--which represents 20 families from the 42 who are members of the pack.

Bonnie will contact our food vendor on Wednesday, so there is still a chance to participate.

For new pack members, this will take the place of our usual monthly pack meeting.

Just a reminder to get your reservations for the Blue and Gold Banquet in to Bonnie Kampen. As of last night, only seven families had contacted Bonnie with a reservation. The reservation deadline is February 15 (Sunday).

For new parents, the Blue and Gold Banquet is our annual celebration of the birthday of cub scouting.

Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Dens are asked to bring a side dish to share
Tiger Dens are asked to bring a dessert dish

As you plan your food item to bring and share, let me share a note regarding nut allergies from one of our pack families:

First, when a child is eating nuts, even though it may be in a confined area, proper washing of hands with soap and running water is required to rinse the nut oils and salts from the hands. If this is not done, the oil and salts can easily be spread to other common items and then transferred to another person. Even though we have bring medication for this, we would rather not spend the evening in the emergency room as a consequence of nut exposure.

The second reason, for which there is no medication, is the exclusion factor. It's difficult for a young boy to be excluded from any event and watching other boys enjoy something that he is denied is difficult.

I know there may be customs, such as enjoying nuts—and dishes with nuts—at a Scouting event, but moving away from nuts helps make our pack events safer and more inclusive for everyone.

Blue and Gold Banquet

Dear Pack Parents:

I hope you enjoyed the Pinewood Derby as much as I did, and my thanks to Brian Kerner and his team for making it happen are boundless.

Our next pack event is the Blue and Gold Banquet. For new parents, it is like a pack meeting, but we use it to celebrate the birthday of cub scouting as we share a feast together, and say "farewell" to our oldest Cub Scouts as they ceremoniously move into Boy Scouting. This event will take place on Sunday, February 22. Reservations need to be made to Bonnie Kampen by February 15. Her contact information is included in the email message sent out on January 28.

Blue and Gold Banquet

Dear Pack 108 Parents:

Reminder that our annual Blue and Gold Banquet will take place this Sunday afternoon, March 2, 2008 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles. The program will commence at 2:00 PM, but if you can lend a hand setting up starting at noon, many hands will make light work.

For those who have not taken part in a Blue and Gold Banquet in the past, it is a celebration of the anniversary of Cub Scouting, and will feature awards, food, and a special program presentation.

Final sign ups for the District Pinewood Derby will take place at the Blue and Gold Banquet. The top three finishers in each den--plus the top three designs--will be eligible to take part in the district race on March 15.

Den leaders and cubs are encouraged to display any of the crafts and things that they created this year for sharing with other cub scouts and the family members who will attend this event.

I will take reservations for Cub Scout Resident camp and Webelos Resident camp for this summer. I highly recommend this element of the outdoor program for all Cub Scouts.

One of my additional scouting tasks is carrying out inspections for boy scout and cub scout camps. The team I work with looks at the quality of the program, safety, quality of the staff, food, and fun. I recommend the Indian Mound Reservation near Oconomowoc, Wisconsin for cub scouts and first year Webelos, but for the older cub scouts in the pack, the program offered here is exceptional.

*I recommend paying an extra $10 per person to use one of the camp’s tents/mosquito nets/cots
