Update to Webelos Den Updates

Dear Webelos Den parents:

A reminder that we will depart at 5:30 for our den meeting next week (Tuesday 2 September), and that we will meet in the parking lot at Davis School.

Please confirm for me by Saturday that your son will be attending or not attending this meeting--I need to plan for the food we are cooking/eating, and wish to neither waste food or starve a cub scout.

Best regards,

Ken

Webelos Den Points of Information

Dear Webelos Den Parents (and Den Chief Parents)

Linked please find information for den meetings this year. Dates and locations are as accurate as possible at the moment, and I will forward any changes in advance.

Our first den meeting of the year will take place on September 2. We will meet at the Davis parking lot at 5:30 PM and spend some time at Duerr Forest preserve. Part of the activity will include simple outdoor cooking, so there is no need to send the boys to the meeting with dinner in them.

A few thoughts about the program year ahead:
  • Part of the Webelos Program is becoming acquainted with Boy Scout troops and Boy Scouting. Some of our meetings will involve visiting Boy Scout troops. Many Boy Scout troops meet on Monday evenings. If our den meeting is shifted from a Tuesday to a Monday on a given week, I hope that the “meeting helpers” can provide transportation on a Monday. I will give you as much notice as possible to support this.
  • Cy will be working more with the Tiger Den (John is officially a Tiger this year), so his involvement with the Webelos Den will be scaled back somewhat. Your presence on den meeting nights (per the schedule above) is appreciated.
  • Alex E., a Boy Scout with Troop 13, and former member of Pack 108, will meet with the Webelos Den as a Den Chief this year. His charge is to serve as a leader for Cub Scouts. The den chief role serves as a position of responsibility for his advancement requirements in Boy Scouting as well. Please welcome Alex when you see him at the next Den Meeting. I will be working with Alex to make sure his experience is as meaningful as possible. And...most importantly...please don’t forget to add an extra snack for Alex when preparing treats for the den meetings.
  • In November--on the 4th and the 11th--I am asking for special help during those weeks, and would like to publicly ask Messers Dwyer and Kampen to lead the effort on the requirements for the Craftsman Badge. I will be out of town for work on one of those dates, and I know that any badge that involves using tools will be well received....and I clearly know my limits when it comes to operating them. I will be in touch shortly on details. Let me thank these gentlemen in advance. :-)
  • We have many great opportunities for the fall. The Kovar family has agreed to lead two pack camp outs per year, so we will have our first overnight experience as a pack in early October. We also have a den campout sponsored by the Fox Valley District at the end of September. The Webelos High Adventure, scheduled for late October, will take us to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. We will be staying at the Rotary Scout Reservation, an historic scout camp and home of many Rover Scout Moots over five decades. We will be camping with the Webelos of Pack 105, Carmel, IN (now home to the Ferry family)
  • The last den event of the year will be a return to Nick's Pizza--the boys seemed to really thrive on making their own pizzas there a while back....so we can make it into a family time and celebrate the end of our time together as Cub Scouts...and look forward to our time as Boy Scouts.

So much for the short note I had planned on.

Jane reminded me of the Cubmobile event on Saturday. I'll probably stop by for a brief time to toss some encouragement out. Please see Jay's recent email message on what is needed to participate.

Messages are always archived at http://pack108.blogspot.com/

Take care, and I will see you on September 2, if not before.
