Happiness Comes from Happifying"

Dear Pack Parents:

The quote above is one the founder of Scouting, Baden-Powell, was often fond of using. The point he was trying to make is that happiness comes in large part from making other people happy, and that we often accomplish this by rendering service to others.

During our leader/parent meeting last night, we discussed ways that the pack can connect with the school and the community. Some ideas that came up included posting the flag at the school, leading flag ceremonies for school sing events, making meals for the needy, collecting toys for the impoverished, and so on.

So....we're asking you to contribute some ideas to our discussion. Please use the link below for responses to add a few thoughts as to what you believe the pack might do to help support the world beyond our den meetings and pack meetings.

Thanks for helping to bring the service ethic of scouting to life for our sons.

Best always,

Ken

My family and I attended the Family Camp Out and overall had a fabulous time. The only unfortunate occurrence was when my youngest son, Theo, was hit in the head with a flashlight by a boy from the Bear den. He was crying and could not understand why he had been attacked without provocation. He pointed out his attacker and I went over and spoke to him. I explained that the older boys need to look out for the little guys so they don't get hurt. The boys' response was that he hit Theo "because I (he) was bored". Perhaps the topic of being kind to everyone should be addressed at the den or pack level. I appreciate the opportunity to express my concern. Thank you.

Comment from Jay S:

Years ago at a pack meeting we had a scavenger hunt for food and toiletry items that were collected to be donated to the Salvation Army and were able to present them with an entire van load of stuff. The team with the most items listed on the scavenger sheet won a prize I recall and we encouraged the homeowners to donate any other items they could part with aside from the items on the list. The kids had a blast and did a great deed. We mixed up the boys to have older boys working with younger and had wagons and a parent in cars following along to pick up the items as they became available. We targeted homes in the immediate vicinity of Davis and went out for 45 minutes.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll pass this on to the den leaders.
